The mission of the YMCA of Longmont is to put Christian principles into action through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Since its inception, the YMCA’s core programs have included youth development, preschool and child care, youth sports and health and wellness. Since 2009 it has focused on three underserved populations with a goal of increasing diversity and inclusion: health seekers (people who want to get healthier but struggle to do so), the Hispanic/Latino community, and people living in poverty—all of whom need support and culturally competent programs to sustain healthy living and youth development.
In addition, healthy eating has become a core component of every program the Y offers. It provides a bridge to healthy behaviors that prevent chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and hypertension. To that end, the Y has been operating an Educational Farm through grant, donor and volunteer support for three growing seasons.
