CBO’s first group volunteer opportunity was on 11/10/12 at the Sister Carmen Center in Lafayette, Colorado. We were met at the center by Ann Huggins, the volunteer coordinator. She gave us a brief overview of the center and it’s history. We were turned over to Ryan, donations coordinator and Kathy, the thrift store supervisor. Our group of 7 (including 2 guests) split up; some to work upstairs in the thrift store and some to sort linen donations. We worked for two hours and made a small dent in both the thrift store- sorting the books for sale and straightening the rest of the store so well as shrinking the mountain of linens that needed to be sorted and priced. It was a chilly, sleety day and we were happy to head to a local establishment following our volunteering for a delicious, hot lunch and chatting about our lives and our experience at the Sister Carmen Center.
