Mama Akiru’s “hotel” business took her from desperation to now helping others in her village. Mama Akiru is a middle-aged mother who lives with her seven children. Her extreme poverty put her in a life of isolation. Global Hope worked with Shambani to identify women’s groups in need, then brought them together and taught them business and basic financial management.
Mama Ekiru is one of the women in a group. She received her share and decided to open up a small “hotel” where she began by selling soup, camel and goat meat (and even intestines!). Her business picked up and began generating money beyond expectation. And as the saying goes, little by little fills an ocean.
She expanded her business to the extent that she has now even employed other people to assist her in her hotel operation. Mama Ekiru's hand-to-mouth life changed drastically, and she not only able to fulfill basic needs for her family, but has extended her generosity to other needy people within the village. She’s now an important lady in Shambani Village! We love that we can keep ongoing contact with the villages in which we have paid a small part and look forward to updating you on other past grantees.
